NAMING CEREMONIES

Humanist naming ceremonies – welcoming a child

Welcoming a child into the world is a special occasion

It's a milestone that deserves to be celebrated. Humanist naming ceremonies give you an opportunity to mark the new arrival with your family and friends, but in a non-traditional, non-religious way.

Naming ceremony service - £220

Humanist naming ceremonies are thoughtful, unique, and a great way to welcome a child into your family.

You can include readings, music, personal stories, and any symbolic gestures you may want, including the announcement of guide-parents. I will support you in putting the ceremony together. You can also hold it wherever you would like – naming ceremonies are completely free of restrictions.

FAQs

How are naming ceremonies different from traditional christenings?

With a humanist naming ceremony, you can personalise the content. What you say, who is included, where you hold it - it is all up to you. I will offer you support, advice, and run the ceremony on the day. Humanist naming ceremonies will not include any religious acts of worship but can include symbolic gestures, such as family handfasting, planting a tree, or lighting candles.

How will we work together?

We will meet to discuss your ideas and what you want from your day. Following our meeting, I will draft your ceremony script which you will have the chance to review. I will then conduct your ceremony and provide you with a presentation copy of your script as a keepsake.

Can we include any hymns or prayers?

A humanist naming ceremony generally wouldn’t include any religious content. Instead, it is all about your child, and their place in your family - telling your story. As a humanist celebrant, I would not lead any acts of worship.

What do you charge?

For my naming ceremony celebrant service £220, plus extra for travel outside of 40 miles. My fees are set within the recommended range of Humanists UK.

Where do you work?

I’m based in Cambridge but work across East Anglia and Essex, including Huntingdon, Peterborough, Ely, Newmarket, Royston, Harlow, Epping, March and Bury St Edmunds. There is an extra charge for travel outside of 40 miles.

How can we book you?

Email me at alex@alexcolliscelebrant.co.uk or call me on 07587 297657. I’m always happy to answer any questions and have a no-obligation chat, so do get in touch.
